Lu Z.
I recently moved to Montréal from British Columbia, and I have an Honours Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Victoria (focus streams: lifespan development, mental health and wellbeing, & social psychology). From my education, I have a strong understanding of maintaining child well-being and safety—including ethical conduct, modelling emotional regulation, deescalation, good child-rearing practices, and addressing any risks to well-being that children may face. I additionally have a strong understanding of child social and cognitive developmental stages, as well as the age-appropriate behaviours that coincide with each. I am comfortable working with children with behavioural, mental health, or neurodevelopmental disorders, including children on the autism spectrum and children with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder. In my free time I enjoy cooking, reading, arts and crafts, and spending time outdoors (BC is known for our hiking culture!). While I was in BC, I volunteered extensively at the Vancouver Island Counselling Centre for Immigrants and Refugees, Island Health's community housing, the Victoria Chinese-Canadian Museum, and the BC Ministry of Education. I was additionally involved with mental health advocacy organizations, such as the BC Schizophrenia Society. Currently, I volunteer with Kids Help Phone as a crisis responder. During and after my post-secondary education, I worked in mental health and social psychology research as a research assistant and a study coordinator. I pride myself on being a very respectful, organized, punctual, and detail-oriented person. I am dedicated to approaching all people with kindness, empathy, and patience, no matter their circumstances or background. I am a native English speaker and am comfortable tutoring/providing aid with schoolwork in science, English, and social studies/humanities (e.g., geography, history). I am happy to help with maintaining tidiness and cleanliness in the home, as well as cooking for children (including those with dietary restrictions). I am willing to obtain full first-aid certification with the Canadian Red Cross if needed.
I have experience babysitting two young children (under the age of 10) in BC, British Columbia, for which I completed the Canadian Red Cross Babysitting Course. My responsibilities in this role included cooking and feeding the children, putting the children to bed, supervising activities, maintaining tidiness within the home, and engaging in age-appropriate play.
I have additional training via the Red Cross Babysitting Course.
