I’m Maia! I am currently seeking opportunities to work with families in Victoria, as I have worked in childcare for 8 years and have loved it. I am a student at the University of Victoria, where I am pursuing a degree in history. I was raised in Edmonton and moved to BC earlier this year to work as a camp counsellor and later attend school. My favourite part of working in childcare is it allows me to use my creativity to find the best ways to connect with each child I work with. I believe every child is very unique and I love learning from them, just as they do from me! I am adjustable in my approach to childcare and understand that every family has different lifestyles, schedules, and needs. I am very willing to be accommodating in order to provide the best care that I can. I have worked with children that have disabilities and can adjust to any additional support that may be required. I have extensive experience with all age groups, and am familiar with the various needs that come with every stage of development. I personally love reading, art, and being outside. Some of my favourite things to do with the kids is reading to them or making crafts together. I also love playing games! I have had my vulnerable sector background check done multiple times, as required in certain childcare positions I have taken on. I also am certified in CPR and First Aid. I have worked with children since 2018. I have been consistently babysitting since that time, and have provided care for groups of up to 9 children ranging in age from newborns to 16 year olds. This position has entailed facilitating activities tailored to each group, preparing meals, housework tasks, assisting with homework, conflict resolution and problem solving, picking up/dropping off children at school, and following any other instructions received by guardians. I have also worked as a camp counsellor for the last two summers (2024 & 2025). This position meant 24/7 supervision of children for a week at a time, for groups of approximately 30 children ranging from 6-16 years old. In this position I delivered instructions for programming, facilitated activities specifically suitable for different groups, communicated relevant information to guardians, helped to maintain the site, and ensured all children were safe and happy for their time at the camp. In January - June 2025, I volunteered as an in-school mentor at a school for children with learning disabilities. I would meet with a child for one hour a week and help with schoolwork, do activities, and engage in meaningful conversations together. Throughout this time I would frequently communicate with school staff to ensure the process was beneficial and discuss where support was most needed.
