Emily D.
My name is Emily! I'm originally from the Lower Mainland and currently living in Victoria while completing my Bachelor of Education at the University of Victoria. I already hold a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, which has given me a strong understanding of child development, emotional regulation, and behaviour, which I apply daily in my caregiving work. I'm working toward becoming an elementary school teacher and have several years of experience caring for children in a variety of settings. My experience includes working as a leader at an out-of-school care program, a youth worker in a group home, and most recently as an educational assistant supporting students from Kindergarten to Grade 12. I’ve cared for children with diverse needs and always strive to create a safe, inclusive, and fun environment where kids feel supported and heard. I come from a close-knit family and value strong relationships, communication, and kindness—qualities I bring into my caregiving roles. In my free time, I enjoy baking, hiking, spending time outdoors, and doing creative projects. I’m patient, reliable, and love helping kids grow!
Caring for children has been a central part of my work and something I find incredibly meaningful. My experience began at a before and after school care program, where I worked with children ages 5 to 10. In this role, I supported daily routines, managed conflicts, provided emotional support, and ensured a fun, safe environment for each child. I then worked as a Youth Worker, supporting youth ages 13 to 18 in the foster care system. This experience gave me a deeper understanding of trauma-informed care, and strengthened my skills in building trust, offering emotional support, and helping young people navigate day-to-day challenges. More recently, I worked as an Educational Assistant where I supported students from Kindergarten to Grade 12, including those with diverse learning needs. I provided both academic and social-emotional support and gained hands-on experience in classrooms, which further confirmed my passion for working with youth. In addition to my hands-on experience, I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, and I am currently completing my Bachelor of Education to become a certified elementary school teacher. These roles and studies have given me a well-rounded understanding of child development, and I bring patience, empathy, and a genuine love for working with kids into every caregiving opportunity.
