My name is Maiya, I'm currently a UVIC student in my second year. In mid-April, I'll be done with school for the semester and I'm wanting to babysit and or nanny this summer! I've worked at some restaurants and grocery stores in the past and also done quite a lot of babysitting work, mostly for my own siblings. When watching kids I love to explore outside, make up silly games, and create art! My hobbies include playing guitar, creating art, collaging, reading, and exploring the outdoors. I've taken dance classes for most of my life, up until recently, when I decided to stop because dance classes are expensive! haha, but that doesn't mean I don't dance around my house! As well, I love to go on walks and be by the ocean, it's the little things that bring happiness:). At UVIC I've been attending Japanese language classes, gender and power classes, and psychology classes. Quite the random mix of courses at the moment, however soon I'll be narrowing my path of study. I'm currently livings in Saanich. Unfortunately, I don't have a car, but I am willing to bus to most areas:)
I've worked some hostess and cashier jobs on top of babysitting jobs. Since I was 13 years old I have been watching my brother and sister who are now 7 and 9. I usually would watch my siblings at least once a week, often for full days. As well I've babysat some neighborhood kids. The most kids I've babysat at once would be two at a time, however, I'm confident in my ability to keep an eye on 3 to 4 children at a time. Usually, when I babysit I try to take the kids out to parks, try to make up fun games, and create some art. Many parents don't wish for their children to be on devices, watching tv, or anything like that when a babysitter is present, and I respect that. I think the amount of time children are spending watching tv these days is kind of ridiculous, and I believe that copious amounts of screen time hiders creativity, social skills, and well-being. When watching my own siblings I'll make snacks such as ants on a log, or apples with peanut butter, and sometimes cheese and crackers, just the basic kid-accepted healthy as-can-be snacks. When I do dinner for them it's usually cheese quesadillas with veggies and dip, or sandwiches, wraps, or rice with veggies. I'm definitely not the Gordon Ramsy but I've got a couple of set things that they seem to enjoy, and it's fun to have them help me out.
