Olivia D.
My passion for caretaking began as a child myself, wanting to be the big sister I never had. Coming from a big Italian family with many many relatives, every family function I was the dedicated babysitter for the little ones and I just LIVED in it. At 16 I could finally apply that passion for working with children through summer camps and I did so for many years on. Dedicating my time as a camp counsellor to children at overnight camps, gaining experience in childcare from wake up until bedtime, and then becoming a live out nanny at 20 years old. I have other experiences working with children with additional needs though the Learning Disabilities Association of Peel Region, where I have worked as a day counsellor for children with learning disabilities, ADHD, and ASD. While I always dreamed of becoming a teacher, I’m currently on a path of learning about film and media students as I decided to go back to college for my more artistic passions. This being said, I miss working with kids, and having the joys of childhood be a part of my daily life. Therefore I hope to continue gaining experience in various childcare employment opportunities throughout the year while I am in school and as I *attempt* a life as a starving artist.

Currently completing an advanced diploma through Humber College, but I previously obtained my degree in English and Geography at the University of Toronto (BA). My intention was to always to go teachers college. I got in with the Dufferin Peel Catholic District School board during Covid as a supply teacher when they were in desperate need, but I then decided to shift careers to focus on my passion of filmmaking. I’m hoping to still be able to fulfill my love of working with children in other capacities as I embark on this new stage of my life and work.
