Natasha H.
My name’s Natasha and I’m a 28 year old woman seeking a nannying position. I have a background in childcare through varying positions. I’ve babysat, coached, peer assisted, counselled and mentored youths and young adults. As a young adult myself I was very active in my community. I competed on a competitive jump rope team for over 10 years travelling across Canada and internationally to compete as well as teach the sport of jump rope. I was a cheerleader at my high school while also playing on the rugby team every year and working as an active member in student council. In university I worked for Trent Student Affairs and also volunteered my time with initiatives across campus such as peer support and the student newspaper. A lot of these interests have followed me into adulthood. I still like to stay active through various workout classes and sports. And I still like to dabble in various creative outlets such as reading, writing and crafting. I love animals and would be happy to work with a family who has pets. I also love being out in nature and would enjoy taking the kids I nanny for out on small adventures and outings.
I have both formal and informal childcare experience. As a young person I regularly babysat for neighbours and other children in my community ranging in ages from 1-13. In high school I gained mentor experience as a coach and a peer assistant. I mentored youths weekly in a recreational jump rope program called Little Leapers. I was the head coach of this program for several years coaching recreationally and organizing group events for jumpers to show off their skills and build community. Through this experience I not only learned to care for children, but also how to encourage and empower them to learn new skills. I also participated in a high school co-op where I peer assisted a gym class for students with disabilities. I supported individual student needs learning to adapt sports and other games to suit a variety of skill levels. I supported the teachers class as well as taught my own class for my finale exam. As an adult I continued my passion for childcare and youth outreach by working as a camp counsellor at the YMCA. I provided safe environments for children to participate in fun and creative activities and ensured a memorable camp experience. While completing my undergrad I worked for Trent University in the student affairs department. I facilitated weekly meetings with LGBTQ+ students providing education, resources and a safe space. I gained expertise in community development, advocacy and group facilitation. These skills were useful to me when I volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters. I worked in the Go Girls program mentoring grade 5 and 6 girls in a range of topics revolving around themes of self-esteem, body positivity and health. I prepared weekly lesson plans based on the program guide to educate and uplift the girls who participated. I’ve loved every position I’ve held working with children and youths. I’ve taken a step back the past few years to focus on other career paths but am now looking to utilize my skill set once more. I’m passionate about community care and would love to do my part working as a nanny.
I graduated with my BAH in a joint major of International Development and Gender Studies from Trent University. I also studied Psychology at UBC.
