Catherine B.
I am a single, friendly, caring and reliable primary school teacher who recently moved to Vancouver from Ireland. I have over 10 years of experience working with children and genuinely love spending time with them, helping them learn, grow and feel confident in themselves. My professional background is in primary education, including experience working in a specialist autism classroom where I supported children with a wide range of needs. I am patient, nurturing and attentive, and I enjoy creating fun, engaging activities that are suited to each child's interests and personality. I have also worked in early childhood daycares in New Zealand, provided one-to-one Maths and Literacy tutoring, and regularly help care for my young niece. Outside of work, I enjoy keeping active, travelling, cooking, spending time outdoors and exploring Vancouver. I particularly enjoy Pilates, swimming, running and hiking, and I love getting out and discovering new places. I am also a keen musician and have played classical flute for many years. I am responsible, organised and calm, but also fun and energetic. I would love to become a trusted and positive part of a family's routine and provide children with a safe, happy and engaging environment while they are in my care.
I am a qualified primary school teacher with over 10 years of experience working with children across a range of ages and abilities. While most of my professional experience has been within a school setting, I also have experience working in early childhood settings and providing one-to-one support. While living in New Zealand, I worked on call in early childhood daycares: First Steps, Ponsonby and First Steps, Grey Lynn gaining experience caring for young children in different environments and supporting their daily routines, play and development. This gave me valuable insight into early childhood care and helped me become comfortable adapting quickly to different settings, routines and children's needs. I provided day-to-day care and support, including assisting with personal routines, toileting, eating, transitions, emotional regulation and communication, while creating a safe, nurturing and structured environment for each child. I worked closely with children with a range of additional needs and adapted my approach to suit their individual personalities, abilities and needs. Alongside my classroom experience, I have also provided one-to-one Maths and Literacy tutoring to a variety of children, adapting activities and teaching approaches to suit their individual learning needs and interests. On a personal level, I also have a 1.5-year-old niece, and I regularly help with her care when spending time with my family. This has given me additional experience with the routines, needs and energy of a young toddler. Overall, I bring a combination of professional teaching experience, early childhood experience and hands-on caregiving. I am caring, patient, responsible and confident working with children of different ages and abilities, and I enjoy creating a safe, engaging and positive environment for children to learn and thrive.
