My name is Joan. I am from California originally, but I am also Canadian. I love reading and writing, so I’m studying English literature. I particularly enjoy the medieval period. I absolutely love board games, playing outside, chit chatting, and laughing. I grew up with an older sister. And I love working with kids! They bring me so much joy, and I love connecting with such sweet souls.

I have cared for a number of children in my life. As a 13 year old I took care of two children, four and 13 months. Now of course, I can’t believe a parent let me care for their children as I was a baby myself. However, I learned a lot about being adaptable for children. In my older teens, I babysat 4 kids between the ages of 10-13. This was a much larger group, but it stressed the importance of remaining calm and collected to ensure children can be as comfortable as they deserve. Most recently, I was a nanny for two young girls. They were nine and eleven. I took care of them at all times outside of school hours. I drove them to their activities, provided emotional support, and we had so much fun!

I am currently a 3rd year student at UBC.
