Rebecca R.
I'm Rebecca! I'm from the UK, and spent my early years back and forth between London and Toronto. I have a background in performing and visual art, I started out as a dancer in Europe, I left dance to pursue acting in New York where I lived for 7 years. I have always studied art and added a three year art program to my long list of artistic training and practice. I have always encouraged the children I work with to explore their creativity through visual art and urge them find their own personal connection to art. I'm a life long learner and I am working on another degree at TMU in Disability Studies, part time. I have an adult daughter who is a musician. I am an avid reader and one of my hobbies is photography. I worked as a cook many moons ago and still use some of the recipes I learned in those kitchens, I love cooking and as my daughter can attest, short order cook speedy! I am a fun but firm in my approach with children, limits and boundaries are there for their emotional and physical safety and I work with families to ensure we are all in agreement as to what is, and, what is not acceptable. I really love kids and in all the careers I have had to date, I can say I have felt no higher calling than to nurture young humans and create conditions for them to flourish.
Please see my resume for a comprehensive list of experience. I have been a childcare professional for over 20 years, a career nanny for a number of families, some on a short contract basis (families who travel to Toronto for an extended stay) and other families who I have worked with until their child entered pre school. I worked with a couple of families during the pandemic; we created a wonderful "bubble" where I offered a Montessori based experience for two 4 yr olds. My background is in performing and visual arts, and I make a point of encouraging the children I work with to explore and make a connection to art in their own personal way. I believe art is not only a joy to experience, but enhances creativity, boosts cognitive development and builds confidence in children of all ages. In addition to my childcare experience, I have worked as an Intervenor for Deafblind populations, worked with individuals on the autism spectrum, and more recently had the privilege to work in eldercare.
