Mckenna P.
I am a 25 year old digital artist and animator. I also have experience with analogue media, and am interested in artistic and sensory play. I am personally disabled and neurodivergent, and engage in work made by people who are disabled in other ways- so I have an education in disabilities I don't personally have. I strongly believe in disability justice and equity. I also have very rudimentary sign language knowledge, but that is something I am more than willing to improve on to help facilitate communication. My mother worked with children, including autistic children, throughout my youth and is someone I definitely defer to as a resource. I like to do crafts and diy projects, I'm a gamer and I've been cultivating a garden. I'm a very proficient and thorough cleaner, although I do need to use low-scent products for my safety as an asthmatic (and if I'm dusting something very dusty, I need to wear gloves and a mask). I also am someone who strives for anti-racism. I think it is incredibly important that all children feel safe, accepted and empowered. I will be upfront with you here that I am nonbinary and queer. I use they/them pronouns. My pronouns are not something I enforce rigidly with children or intellectually/developmentally disabled folks, or those with issues like traumatic brain injuries, but I do ask for basic respect and courtesy from my employers and others. My gender and sexuality isn't "all I am", however childcare can be hostile to people like me, and I need to disclose for my own safety.
babysitting in high school, consistently looked after one child over several years. Volunteer work at a daycare with children ranging from babies to school age, on several occasions volunteered with a children's summer program at my local library tutoring and playing with a school aged child for approximately half a year scribe for developmentally/intellectually disabled students in high school co-op placement working in the self-contained classrooms during a semester of school. I worked one on one with an autistic student on social skills, language, and numbers. I also assisted with other students, helping them to regulate, modelling socially appropriate touch, etc.
I was preciously certified in first aid/cpr and am working on getting recertified. I also did a babysitting course duringhigh school
