I currently volunteer at Sturgeon General Hospital in a couple different ways. I have been volunteering in some capacity since 2016 to the present. I have on and off been looking after a child for the last 4.5 years. I am looking for something between 3-10 hours each week. I am up to date on both flu and Covid immunizations. I have my Childcare Level 2 certification. I am a happy, easy going person to get along with. I have always loved working with children. People find my positivity and smile two of my best qualities. A smile a day keeps the grumpy‘s away!

I volunteer for a non profit organization called SHAVA (Sturgeon Hospital Auxiliary Volunteer Association). I started in March 2016 and still continue to volunteer. Before Covid I would help visitors and patients find their way to visit a loved one or to make it to an appointment in the hospital. Also do some time visiting and playing card games with patients. I would help with the parking machine and also help with wheelchairs get around. I also helped with students to take them around in groups to learn about the different areas of the hospital and importance of them. After Covid hit I became a Board member. I am still working with the Board. Im very excited to additionally start a new venture working in the SHAVA gift shop in the hospital.

This family was looking for a driver every other week for September and October 2024. I was able to pick up 2 of their daughters (6 and 9) from school to an extracurricular activity in a timely and safe manner. The girls and I had many conversations between point A and B. My favourite one would have to be their discussions on finding a family to sponsor this Christmas. They talked with such excitement and enthusiasm on the things they could gather and make for a family less fortunate.

Volunteer
Up until March of 2020 I worked at the information desk inside the hospital. One part was I informed visitors where to see patients as well as patients coming in for day surgery. I helped with both patients and visitor issues, being present for patients who wished to communicate, organizing, cleaning, hospital tours and one on one patient time. Another part was becoming a board member in 2021. We meet (Zoom) once a month, organize fundraisers, deal with cash, organize people for fundraisers as well as a Summer social to thank all those who volunteer through the hospital. I now spend every other Saturday at the gift shop inside the hospital.
