As a 24-year-old Belgian recently settled in Pitt Meadows, Canada, to be with my partner, I find joy in embracing various hobbies and interests. From cooking and baking to camping and traveling, I thrive on exploration and creativity. Whether singing, engaging in pottery, drawing, or painting, I cherish moments of self-expression. Despite my busy schedule, I've recently rediscovered the joy of crocheting, adding another layer of creativity to my life. While reading remains an interest, finding time amidst my bustling life proves challenging. In addition to my hobbies, I am very patient and love helping and motivating others. My social nature and strong communication skills make spending time with family and friends a cherished pastime. I also have a deep affection for animals and relish spending time outdoors, exploring new areas and soaking in the beauty of nature. Yet, amidst all these activities, my heart finds its greatest fulfillment in nurturing and shaping young minds, a passion I carry with me as I embark on this new chapter in Canada. (professional experience: closer to 2 years, but in general I've got more than 2 years of experience as you can read below.) Throughout my journey, spanning from my teenage years to adulthood, I've had the joy of shaping young minds and creating countless memories with the little ones. It all began when I was just 13 years old, dipping my toes into the world of babysitting, where each interaction was a lesson in patience, compassion, and joy. As I progressed through my studies at the University of Ghent, my love for nurturing young souls only grew. I've spent multiple summers working at a local daycare center, surrounded by laughter and boundless energy, while summer camps, on top of that, provided opportunities to ignite imaginations as an monitor. During my tenure as a primary school teacher at a local elementary school in Belgium, I found my true calling. Guiding eager learners through their formative years, I witnessed the remarkable impact of education firsthand. However, my time there was brief, as I relocated to Canada during my second month on the job. Initially intended as a temporary position, I unexpectedly discovered a profound love for nurturing and assisting children. This newfound passion has ignited my interest in pursuing a role as a childcare worker/nanny.

I'm someone who finds joy in a variety of interests, from music, singing, and dancing to sports like soccer and softball. My love for the arts and staying active reflects my energetic and creative nature. Academically, I’m passionate about English and debate—two areas where I’ve thrived. Becoming the top debater on my team has been a rewarding challenge that sharpened my critical thinking and communication skills. Family is incredibly important to me. Raised by my mom as a single parent until I was 7, she remains my biggest inspiration and favorite person. Though I don’t have siblings, my relationship with my father has grown stronger over the years, and it’s something I deeply value. My home is lively, shared with 3 cats and 1 dog, who bring warmth and joy to my daily life. In my free time, I enjoy writing music and stories—creative outlets that allow me to explore new ideas and express myself. I also cherish time spent with family and friends, as these connections are the foundation of my happiness. Some of my proudest moments in the last year are successfully cooking an entire Thanksgiving meal by myself my first try, which was a fun and fulfilling experience. Another moment would be winning singing competitions with a song I wrote myself. And, of course, being recognized as the top debater on my team for my love of engaging in thoughtful, spirited discussions. I approach life with enthusiasm and a strong sense of curiosity, always eager to learn, connect with others, and make every moment count. I am Irish-born Chinese from Ireland, living in Burnaby. My native tongue is English and I am fluent in Cantonese, intermediate Mandarin, Irish, Swedish, German and French. My qualities include: - A can-do attitude - A friendly, positive, cheerful disposition - A people-person - A flexible outlook - Always one step ahead - A consistently good communicator - Creating learning opportunities for the children - Acting in terms of “How can I help?” I love children and they are comfortable around me because I am approachable, trustworthy, patient, calm, fun, energetic and compassionate. I like to swim, camp, hike, and do acroyoga. I am Covid-19 vaccinated 4 times and can provide references upon request. Additionally, I possess a clean BC driver's license. I look forward to meeting you and your family! :) I started babysitting and cooking for my younger siblings (5-8 years old) at the age of 12 years old, as well as doing housekeeping chores. During my teenage years, I babysat my neighbours' children. I have taken care of children from newborns to 15-year-olds and worked with special needs. Shortly after my nephews and niece were born, I looked after them as their parents were busy. I had to sterilize their baby bottles and prepare milk formula, as well as bathe, change their diapers, soothe and feed them. When I volunteered with Vancouver Adaptive Snow Sports (VASS), I assisted in teaching disabled people to ski. I helped Special Olympics athletes prepare for their competitions and thus I am a very adaptive and accommodating person. I enjoy cooking, housekeeping, and looking after people. If needed, I plan age-appropriate activities in advance to keep kids engaged. I always bring necessary items with me such as my own food and water. For me, safety is very important: I ensure the childcare space is safe and remove any potential hazards, and keep the parents' emergency contact information on hand. To provide consistency for the children, I follow the household's rules and routines as set out by the parents. I keep ongoing communication with the parents to share the children's activities and any incidents that may occur. I am attentive and engaged by giving the children my full attention I manage any behaviour using positive reinforcement, redirecting any negative behaviour in a calm and patient manner. As I move from one activity to the next, I maintain cleanliness and hygiene. I clean up any messes the children and I make. I always leave the home as neat and tidy as I found it or better if time allows. I respect the family's privacy, and don't share their personal information with others. I keep a professional demeanour in all my interactions and always act in the best interests of the children. Additional Experiences/Qualifications: I have worked as a caregiver in nursing homes and as a breakfast chef, kitchen help, housekeeper, and server. I have also done a TEFL course and tutored adults and children in English.

At the heart of me, I'm an individual who identifies as non-binary, and like many people from my generation, I too am striving to figure out ways to make ends meet in today's faltering economy. It's no small task, as many can testify to, but I believe that finding one's passion and leveraging it can often be the key to survival, and possibly even success. My passion lies in assisting and supporting families, particularly those with children. Perhaps spurred by my own experiences, I feel a strong connection to those trying to hold things together in hectic daily routines while managing child care. My family didn't have the luxury of outside help when I was growing up and this lack led to some relationships being strained, some bridges inadvertently being burned. It is a scenario that many families can relate to and one that I hope to help avoid through my efforts. As life would have it, my sensitivity and understanding to the unique situation of families with special needs children is also rooted in my personal experiences. My brother was diagnosed to be on the autism spectrum at a young age, which made our household dynamics a bit different from conventional ones. Living in close quarters with my brother and watching him navigate life has given me insight and empathy into what it feels like to belong to a family of special needs. I hasten to clarify, this doesn't mean that people with special needs are a burden. Quite the contrary! They vivify our lives with a unique lens on the world that often invokes awe and admiration within us for their tenacious spirit and brave heart. It just needs a different level of understanding, patience, and adaptability to maximize compatibility and happiness. I aspire to use my experience and understanding to make a difference, one family at a time. (I did use the make it longer feature) Due to parental issues from the age of 12 to 16 I was in charge of making sure my little brother was fed, cleaned, clothed, and did his homework which I had helped him complete when needed I completed what's called the French Immersion program for elementary and secondary school which earned me a double Dogwood diploma. I am also looking into becoming an ea for special needs children. I also completed the peer tutoring course working in the BASES department of my school
