Rodala A.
My name is Rodala and I am very excited to hopefully obtain a nanny position for this upcoming year. I am 24 years old and have recently graduated from Carleton University with a degree in International Development and Economics. Outside of school, I am heavily involved in the Ottawa community, partaking in grassroots organizing. I am originally from Saskatoon SK. Being the only child in my family, from a young age I have loved being surrounded by people, and more specifically kiddos. I now have over 10 years of experience with children! I am hoping to bring back a little more sunshine in my life by working with children. I am currently working a remote online job at a climate NGO, but am looking to take a break from remote work and work in person with kids - I've been a student and a part-time worker for a long time now, and want to take a year off to do in-person work with children! I have a car, lots of experience, and a love for kids - I'm looking forward to finding the perfect family to help this year!
I have been working in childcare ever since I was in high school, starting in 2014. In my high school years, I babysat children ages 0-6 years old, where I change diapers, cook and feed the children, help them clean up, arrange for activities and games and more. From 2014-2018, I taught dance to children ages 4 - 16 at my community center as well. Alongside that, I was a tutor aiding in English, Mathematics, and Social Studies. In 2018 I moved to Ottawa for university. The summer of 2019, I was worked at a First Nations Reserve in Whitesand Reserve as a literacy camp coordinator for two months. My colleague and I would create daily educational lesson plans for kids ages 4-12 in the morning and then 12-17 in the afternoon, in addition to cooking meals for them, and setting up the camp space every day. This was truly a remarkable experience. Since 2020, I have nannied for multiple families, with children ages 4 moths to 10 years around the Ottawa community. I would play, cook, and look after the kids! I was also a mothers helper, aiding with tasks such as laundry, organizing, cleaning the house, and more. The past few summers, I have spent my time working in a senior care home feeding, cooking cleaning and arranging activities for the residents there. I have been able to hone my caretaker skills and have come out of the job with more patience, love and organisational skills than before. I hope to bring these skills back to Ottawa and support a family in the same sense. In 2021, my friends and I co-founded a climate camp called Kids4Climate, where we held a virtual camp in the summer with the goal to equip kids ages 8-14 with tools and resources to take climate action in their homes and communities.
