Jamie M.
I am a 25 year old Developmental Services Worker Program (DSW) graduate. I have taken courses in medication administration, behavior management, and persons requiring extensive and pervasive support. I have been able to put this knowledge into practical experience through community field placements where I supported a number of individuals with varying behaviors, seizure disorders and disabilities. In the past I have been certified in First Aid, CPR and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention. I spent four years working for a number of group homes for adults with developmental disabilities; which has given me extensive experience in medication administration, advocacy for clients and caring for individuals requiring extensive pervasive support. As much as I enjoyed the work I did, I’m hoping to make a transition to a Nanny role and I feel my past experiences would make me an asset to the job. In my spare time I enjoy crafting, cooking and baking and spending time with my husband and animals.
With my education in Developmental Services, I have had experience working with children in a classroom environment as well as a summer camp environment. In both of these environments it was important to be able to determine what exactly each child needed and to deliver person-centred care accordingly. I have also had much experience in my lifetime as a babysitter, so I am very familiar with caring for children from the age of 5 months up to 10 years of age. In my opinion the most important thing is to follow the wishes of the parent, and to ensure a safe and happy child, however that looks for each family.
