Abby S.
After finishing my degree in Kingston, I moved to Ottawa and have been enjoying getting to know the city! I am looking for work in/around the centretown area. I grew up in a busy family playing sports, taking music lessons, reading lots of books, and enjoying thought-provoking conversations (definitely not arguments!) with my brothers and parents. I like to say I grew up babysitting because I have a younger brother, but my nannying experience really began when I was in high school. And from then on, I knew I wanted to work with kids in my future career. Families often find me to be a patient, kind, and very caring addition to their lives. I truly adore the children I work with, and enjoy getting to know them as an individual to understand their likes/dislikes, activities of interest, and strategies they respond best to. I am fascinated by communication, and love figuring out the puzzles presented by each child I work with, whether it's babbling, new words, baby sign, or anything in between! Children always have a unique way of communicating and it's one of the many reasons I love what I do. You can expect me to be playing your child's favourite tunes, setting up (and cleaning up!) lots of seasonal crafts, playing anytime, anywhere, and always trying my best to make today a great day for your kiddo!
Recently, I have been working in the child services field, and have been gaining experience in children’s programming. Luckily, this has enhanced my understanding of how to curate safe, enriching environments for children and my ability to integrate skill-enhancement into play and activities. Some of these experiences included daycare and montessori supply teaching, tutoring for a schoolboard’s literacy camp, EarlyON program facilitation, and program coordination at a non-profit. Families have found me to be a patient and empathetic addition to their lives, always willing to offer support where I can. I enjoy getting to know each child I work with as an individual to understand their likes, dislikes, activities of interest, and strategies they respond to best. I approach each day with patience, creativity, and genuine curiosity for child development, allowing me to build trusting relationships with children and respond attentively to their mood, energy, and interests. My goal is always to foster confidence, independence, and joy – creating an environment where children feel safe, supported, and excited to explore the world. During a care session, you can expect me to be singing all your child's favourite songs, setting up – and cleaning up – lots of seasonal crafts, playing anytime, anywhere, and always giving my full effort to make today a great day for your child! I am looking for a part time or full time contract starting at the end of February 2026 in the Beacon Hill/Gloucester or Orléans area. If you think I would be a good fit for your family’s needs, please reach out!
