I had the privilege of supervising Shefali during her time at GRETA Bar YYZ, where I worked as her shift lead. Over the course of our time working together, I came to know Shefali not only as a highly capable team member but as a deeply thoughtful, resilient, and principled individual who brings out the best in those around her. Working in a fast-paced, high-pressure hospitality environment is no small feat, and Shefali quickly distinguished herself through her maturity, adaptability, and leadership potential. She approached every shift with a sense of purpose and a positive, calm demeanor that made her a grounding presence for both staff and guests. It became apparent very early that she was someone I could trust without hesitation to manage challenging situations with fairness and empathy–whether it was a guest complaint, a team conflict, or simply an especially chaotic evening. Shefali’s natural leadership qualities stood out. She actively took on more responsibility over time, eventually becoming a shift lead herself. But her contributions were never about titles or recognition. What truly set her apart was her initiative – she consistently went beyond expectations. She noticed inefficiencies and addressed them. She helped onboard and support new hires with patience and encouragement. She routinely checked in with team members who were struggling and offered help before being asked. Her emotional intelligence and strong communication skills made her a quiet but powerful force of cohesion and reliability in the workplace. What is even more admirable is that Shefali demonstrated all of this while carrying the weight of significant personal challenges, which she never used as an excuse. Instead, she brought a deeper level of empathy, perspective, and integrity to everything she did. Her resilience and grace under pressure are qualities that cannot be taught—they are forged through lived experience, and I believe they will serve her incredibly well in the legal field. Shefali has a genuine curiosity about the world and an authentic desire to make a difference. Her ability to work collaboratively, think critically, and lead with compassion makes her ideally suited for legal studies and for the responsibilities that come with a career in law. I have no doubt she will bring the same strength, care, and drive to your program that she brought to our team, and that she will go on to make a meaningful impact in the legal community.
