Maya T.
I am 21 years old and a fourth-year student at the University of Toronto, double-majoring in Political Science and Criminology. I speak four languages: English, Russian, Hebrew, and Mandarin Chinese. I live in Newmarket and my hobbies include yoga, swimming, sewing, crocheting, singing, and Taekwondo, in which I have recently earned my black belt. Through my experience working as a lifeguard and swim instructor, I have been responsible for supervising and teaching individuals of various ages and abilities, including children, adults, and seniors. I have supported learners who were nervous, hesitant, or new to swimming by creating a calm, patient, and encouraging environment. I focus on clear communication, step-by-step instruction, and adapting my approach to meet each person’s comfort level and needs. These experiences have strengthened my interpersonal skills, patience, and ability to build trust with others. I am comfortable engaging with individuals one-on-one, providing companionship and support, and maintaining a respectful and attentive presence. My background has also taught me how to remain calm under pressure, communicate effectively across language barriers, and provide consistent, reliable support in structured environments.
I have worked as a babysitter for my neighbours, family, and friends of family. I have babysat newborns as well as toddlers and early elementary all throughout my adolescence and early adulthood.
