Andrea H.
My husband and I moved to Canada last year for a promotion he gained within his company. We do not have any children of our own, just our two Springer Spaniels. I am warm, generous and responsive. I can support, engage and interact with people of all ages and backgrounds, having worked in many industries outside of education before I became a teacher - including the police and Disney! Art and craft is a passion of mine and I love baking, cooking, fitness and sometimes pick up the recorder for a bit of music therapy. I can play a few instruments to varying degrees but haven't done much music for a while. I've written my first middle grade adventure book which I'm trying to get published, and I also write lyrics for my husband's songwriting. I am available to drive to place of work: 2 weekdays for the whole day, and 3 weekdays either morning (up until 12pm) or afternoon (from 1.30pm only). I am flexible which days these are. 15 to 20 hours a week is ideal for me but I could discuss this if the right opportunity presented itself. The week of 11-15 August I am on a course. I can speak and understand a little French and German.
I qualified as a teacher in the UK in 2001 and have worked with children from first grade to 18 year olds (and adults) over the past 23 years. I've taught art, music, literacy, basic numeracy, study skills and special needs in this time, working with small classes and 1 to 1 tutoring. I did not do as much work with Early Years/infants except as a special needs manager, when required to assist with guidance on intervention support but I'm confident I would be able to work with children this age. My approach is one of nurturing potential and finding, creating and exploring opportunities for children to grow and learn through curiosity, care and attention - also ensuring they develop independence from an early age. Children who become aware early on that they can have a go and us adults are there to support them along the way. I believe in imagination and laughter and looking at the beauty in the world.
