Elizabeth B.
I grew up in a family of five in Tsawwassen, BC, as the youngest child with two older brothers. I was raised in the same home my whole life, which gave me a strong sense of community and family connection. After graduating high school, I moved to Montreal to study at Concordia University, a city I’ve always loved. I also completed French immersion throughout school, which has given me a foundation in both English and French. My hobbies and interests have always centered around movement and working with people. I was a competitive cheerleader for my whole life and also a coach. Which made me be patient working with children and supporting their growth. This connects closely to my long-term goal of becoming a social worker, particularly focusing on children’s mental health and well-being. I would describe myself as outgoing, positive, and approachable. People often say I always have a smile on my face. I bring strong energy to group settings and enjoy creating welcoming environments for others. In fact, when I started working in the restaurant industry, I was originally hired as a busser but was quickly promoted to server because of my warm personality and ability to connect with people. These attributes carry through in all areas of my work, especially in childcare, where being supportive, encouraging, and reliable is so important
I'm 19 now. I have been working with children since I was 12 years old, beginning as a Coach-in-Training (CIT) in cheerleading. By the time I turned 14 and I could be a real coach, I had accumulated enough hours to transition into a paid coaching role, where I continued to develop my skills and passion for working with kids. My responsibilities included creating a safe, supportive environment, teaching new skills, managing groups of up to 20 children at a time, and helping athletes grow both in confidence and ability. Several of the teams I coached went on to achieve national champion titles, which was an incredible experience. At 13, I also completed the Babysitting Course and began caring for children of all ages, including those with special needs. Through babysitting and coaching, I’ve gained extensive experience in supervising, engaging, and supporting children in a variety of settings. Working with kids has always felt natural to me, and it’s a big part of why I’m pursuing a career in social work today.
