Abby W.
My name is Abby, and I'm currently living in Montreal as a student. I am attending McGill University for Art History and English Literature as a rising senior. I am from Northern Virginia, just outside of Washington D.C., in the United States.
My previous experience has been as a lifeguard/pool manager at a few neighborhood pools for two different companies. I have been working in these positions since I was fifteen years old. While these positions required many technical and mechanical tasks, my biggest priority was the safety of my patrons—in particular, the children. In the past five years in my job, I have saved more than 15 children from drowning and have assisted countless others with smaller issues like cuts, splinters, or bee stings. I am CPR and first aid trained and certified. My years of lifeguard training have made me well-equipped for many types of emergencies. In my position, I have developed close relationships with many of the child patrons at my pools. Many of them visit the pool all day, nearly every day, and therefore, I have often functioned as a type of babysitter for them. I enjoy my work with the children greatly and take pride in my surveillance and enforcement of their safety. My lifeguarding duties have helped me learn how to discipline children in a way that is firm but kind, as my enforcement of pool rules is as important for their safety as is their opportunity to have fun and enjoy the pool. Outside of this job experience, I have often assisted my schoolteacher sister in working with her students. She teaches grade three. I have come into her classroom on numerous occasions to help manage the children, but also to get to know them and read to them. I have cherished my experiences with the children in my career and am enthusiastic about continuing my work with them. Nannying appeals to me because it would allow me to truly get to know and care for a child (or two, or three). I had a few nannies who took care of my siblings and me over the summers when we were younger, and I look upon those memories fondly. I am still in contact with a few of them today. I hope to give the same positive experience to your children! Side note: I am fluent in English and have over 6 years of experience in French, making me an intermediate speaker—so I should be able to communicate in both languages with your child/children.
