Olive S.
This year I fulfilled my longtime dream of moving from my hometown of Nanaimo, BC to this beautiful city of Montreal. In the future I hope to go to university in Montreal, but for now I’m settling in and trying to learn the language. I became interested in being a child caregiver because my previous experience with kids has shown me just how rewarding it can be. I love to indulge children’s curiosity, creativity, and growth by playing and doing different activities. As a vegetarian, I can cook a variety of nutritious vegetarian meals and am always looking for new dishes to add to my repertoire. I also enjoy keeping a tidy and organized home. My flexible is extremely flexible and I can work full or part time. Although I haven’t been a nanny before, I have a variety of related experience. Last year, I was very fortunate to do an exchange year in Norway through Rotary International’s Youth Exchange program. One of the many highlights of my year abroad was being hired as an assistant teacher for a youth film and media course. During my two semesters as an assistant teacher, I really enjoyed connecting with my students and supporting each individual so their unique talent could shine. I lead games and organized activities to strengthen skills like teamwork, communication, and creativity, and also just to have some active fun! My first host family in Norway had the sweetest two year old daughter, so I got to experience being a big sister figure and took care of her when my host parents needed me to. During high school, I would occasionally babysit two sisters who were four and nine years old. This included taking the sisters to the park, playing with them, preparing dinner, and doing the bedtime routine. Through volunteer work with Special Olympics BC, I have also gained some experience being with people who have diverse needs and abilities. I am happy to provide childcare, do housekeeping work, care for animals, plan and prepare meals, help children with homework… Whatever your household needs! I am happy to help in any way I can. It is a big responsibility to be trusted to care for someone’s home or family. Safety and wellbeing are my top priorities. My goal is to ensure everyone’s needs and expectations are met, whatever those may be.
• From October 2022 to June 2023, during my exchange year in Norway, I worked as an assistant teacher for a film and media course for children and youth. • I assisted students aged 8-14 in creating a variety of audiovisual projects over the course of a semester. • The class size was 8-12 kids managed by myself and one other teacher. • I took students on small field trips, lead games and activities, taught students how to use camera equipment and computer programs, helped students to develop their creative strengths, helped the students with their spoken and written English skills when it was relevant, and made sure they were meeting their project goals. • By the second semester, I graduated to a "co-teacher" position.
