I'm Melissa, an 18-year-old (soon to be 19!) student at the University of Toronto, pursuing a Life Science degree with a focus on the Health Stream. Originally from a Sri Lankan background, I have a deep appreciation for culture and family. Outside of academics, I’m passionate about baking (it’s my favorite stress-reliever!), cleaning, drawing, and painting—creative outlets that help me unwind. I also love spending time with my cousins and stepping in when they need care or support. Currently in my first year of university, my ultimate goal is to attend medical school and specialize in pediatrics. I'm excited to dive into experiences where I can learn more about working with children, and I’m committed to making every experience enjoyable, safe, and rewarding for both myself and those I’m helping. With a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a natural compassion for others, I’m eager to apply my skills and passion to any opportunity where I can make a positive impact, especially in environments where I can grow my understanding of healthcare and child care.
Although I do not have much professional experience working with children, I have been able to work with children growing up by caring for my younger cousins. I also aspire to become a pediatrician, and I am certified with CPR-C to ensure the safety of my children in cases of emergency. I have also volunteered at Markham Stouffville Hospital in the Pediatric clinic, being able deepen my understanding on kids and how I can support them.
