During my high school years in grades 11 and 12, I worked in the preschool in my high school, where I assisted in the daily activities and routines of the classroom. My duties included helping set up learning stations, engaging children in play-based and educational activities, and supporting their social and emotional development. I also helped with snack preparation, cleanup, and outdoor play supervision. Additionally, I gained experience observing the children's behaviour, assisting with transitions, and maintaining a positive and safe learning environment, all of which contributed to my understanding of early childhood education practices. As an Early Childhood Educator Assistant (ECEA) at a Montessori elementary daycare and school, I supported lead educators by facilitating a child-centered learning environment that followed Montessori principles. My responsibilities included preparing and maintaining the classroom materials, assisting children with hands-on learning activities, supervising playtime, and fostering their independence. I helped with daily routines, such as snack times and outdoor activities, and ensured a safe, nurturing atmosphere. Additionally, I engaged in documentation and observation to track the developmental progress of the children as part of my ongoing work to obtain my full Early Childhood Education (ECE) certification. I also worked in the out of school program for a couple months.
