I am a single woman with no dependents. I have 3 sons and 2 very young grandsons that I adore enormously. I love hiking and discovering the flora and fauna on every hike. I also enjoy cooking, baking, vegetable gardening, museums, reading, baseball, science, painting, and most sports. I truly enjoy introducing children to the wonders of nature, science, cooking, and vegetable gardening. I am still very much a tomboy. I can also be still with a great book and enjoy creating imaginative moments by building tents, lego, trains, crafting and puzzles, as well as doing science experiments to enable children to love learning and trying new things. I lived in the country for 34 years, and love camping, kayaking, and hiking. I love to spark curiosity in children, through reading, and experiments in nature. Keeping children active, and learning at the same time, make for strong bodies and curious minds.
I was a stay-at-home mother, who also homeschooled my children for 15 years. I also ran a Kid's church program for 6 years, and previous to that I was a helper at another children's program for 6 years. I tutored children who were struggling with reading and arithmetic for about 7 years. I am a good cook and enjoy trying new recipes, as well as teaching children the love of cooking and baking. I love the outdoors and would enjoy taking your children on hikes and to museums, zoos, discovering nature, science, and anthropology in all its glory and wonder. I have a university degree in health studies and aging and society, as well as sociology. They demonstrate my love of learning, my commitment to equity in our society, as well as my commitment to serving my community in many ways.
My education was mostly training for marginalized people. I took courses in disabilities and Child Development. I teach courses in Chronic diseases and Chronic pain through Hamilton Health Sciences, and have been a volunteer with the VON Hamilton in their New Beginnings program. This program is for mother's going through difficult journeys after giving birth. I have also volunteered with palliative and grieving people through the VON. I usually get my CP certification every year through Hamilton Health Sciences, but due to covid, it has not been offered. I would be more than willing to update that. I also have courses in mental health, specifically trauma, grieving, and suicide.
