Linlu Z.
I am a graduate student at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, currently in my final term. I have a background in education and hold a teaching qualification from China. I am patient, responsible, empathetic, and genuinely enjoy spending time with children. It is difficult for me to give an exact number of years of childcare experience because most of my experience has been informal and has developed naturally over many years through helping family members, neighbours, and friends care for their children. Since I was young, I have often helped look after younger children in my neighbourhood, including children around three years old. I also grew up in a large family and helped my older sister care for her newborn. As her child grew, I sometimes looked after the child independently when she needed to handle urgent matters. Since coming to Canada for graduate school, I have also regularly spent time with a close friend and fellow graduate student who has a child, and I often help care for the child when we spend time together. I have realized that being around children gives me a genuine sense of calm, happiness, and fulfillment. It feels very different from the pressure of studying, and caring for and interacting with children has always been one of the things I truly enjoy doing in my free time. Since February 2026, I have volunteered at the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21, where I interact with children and families during public programs and special events, including family activities, cooking programs, and Canada Day events. Before beginning my volunteer work at the Museum, I successfully completed a Canadian Criminal Record Check and a Nova Scotia Child Abuse Registry Search. Although I have not worked as a full-time professional nanny, I do have meaningful hands-on childcare experience and I am a quick and willing learner. I am very open to learning evidence-based and age-appropriate ways of caring for children, and I am happy to follow parents’ routines, preferences, and guidance. I understand that every child and every family is different, so I am comfortable asking questions, receiving feedback, and adjusting my approach when needed. I am also willing and interested in obtaining both First Aid and CPR certification to further strengthen my childcare skills. I am a non-smoker, can swim, and am comfortable helping with play, homework, simple meals, light housekeeping, and daily routines. I am looking for part-time childcare work because I genuinely enjoy caring for children and hope to provide them with a safe, warm, positive, and engaging environment while giving parents reliable and responsible support.
