Emily C.
My name is Emily, I'm from Winnipeg, Manitoba, and I am currently pursuing my undergraduate degree in Marine Biology at Dalhousie. I love being outside, whether it's hiking, walking, camping, exploring, or simply reading. Being in nature is one of my favorite things. I come from a family line of child care workers (my mom is a Director of a Child Care center and my sister is an ECE). I love working with children and have had opportunities to learn from amazing ECEs, specialists, and other individuals in the field on the best ways to care for children and support their individual needs. I enjoy discovering children's niche interests and creating fun activities based on them to better support their learning through play.
I have grown up in the child care industry, starting from volunteering at child care centers and babysitting, to working at summer camps, and eventually working full time in nature-based child care centers. I have experience working with a variety of age groups and in a variety of programs, including Infant/Toddler Programs (6 months-2 years old), Preschool (2-5 years old), Nature Nursery Program, Field and Forest Programs, and School Age (5-12 years old). Additionally, I have a lot of experience working with children who have additional support needs, such as ADHD, ODD, OCD, Autism, Global Delay, CP, Down syndrome, etc. My main philosophies for children in my care revolve around Circle of Security and Nature-Based/Play-Based learning.
