Yolanda G.
I’m Yolanda — a compassionate, reliable, and energetic individual with a strong background in tutoring and childcare. I come from a close-knit Jamaican family and am the oldest sibling, with a 15-year age gap between my younger brother and me. This age difference gave me hands-on experience caring for a child from infancy through school age — from changing diapers and preparing meals to helping with homework and fostering emotional growth. Professionally, I began tutoring during high school, supporting students in subjects like math, science, English, and French. I loved helping kids build their confidence and always aimed to make learning fun and stress-free. My approach is patient, encouraging, and adapted to each child’s unique needs and learning style. I’m currently studying Neuroscience at the University of Guelph, with a minor in French and a passion for health, education, and community development. I’ve held leadership roles including Assistant Returning Officer for the Central Student Association and Social Events Coordinator for the Guelph Black Students Association, where I plan inclusive events for students of all ages. These roles have strengthened my communication, time management, and problem-solving skills — all of which translate well to working with children. Outside of school and work, I enjoy reading, cooking, doing makeup, volunteering, and going on nature walks. I’m also passionate about mentorship and youth development, and I bring a warm, nurturing, and professional attitude to every opportunity. If you’re looking for someone who is dependable, friendly, and genuinely invested in supporting children’s growth and well-being — whether through tutoring or childcare — I’d love to connect with you!
I have meaningful experience working with children, both professionally and personally. I began tutoring during high school, helping younger students with subjects like math, English, and science. I’ve always enjoyed creating fun and engaging ways to help kids learn - whether it was through flashcards, educational games, or breaking down tricky concepts in a way that makes sense to them. My patience and ability to connect with kids helped many of my students feel more confident in their learning. On a more personal note, I’m also 15 years older than my younger brother, so I’ve naturally stepped into a mentorship and caregiving role in my own family. From helping with homework and bedtime routines to supervising playtime and encouraging positive habits, I’ve been closely involved in his growth. This has given me years of hands-on experience in understanding how to support a child’s emotional and developmental needs. Combined with my background in neuroscience and community leadership, I bring a calm, compassionate, and responsible approach to working with children. I understand how important it is to create a safe, supportive, and engaging environment for every child to thrive.
