Hi there. My name is Alex.
I am 32 years old and originally from Toronto. I lived in Alberta for 14 years and attended the University of Alberta during this time. I have an honours BSc in Immunology and Infectious diseases as well as a BSc in Nutrition and I am a fully qualified Registered Dietitian. I am currently attending Medical School in Ireland. I have had significant experience in looking after children throughout my lifetime and have worked most recently as an Au Pair for a family in Abu Dhabi. I have also spent time working at a special needs orphanage in Tamil Nadu, India contributing to the care, education and dietary needs of children from birth to 18 years of age. In addition, I have worked in Tacloban, Philippines as a disaster relief worker caring for children and providing them with nutritious meals during the typhoon that hit in 2013. In addition to these child care related experiences, I volunteered with Camp Oooh (a camp for children with cancer) for 5 years. During this experience I cared for children undergoing cancer treatment (children with very unique and demanding needs), day and night while they were my campers at this amazing camp. Finally, I have coached junior high boys volleyball helping to build and foster confidence, resilience and teach new skills to the boys that I coached.
I am an avid runner, yogi and sports enthusiast. I am very active and enjoy spending time outside and with my dog whenever possible. I also love to read, cook, play my piano and travel.
I have always had a love and keen interest in caring for children, and would love to opportunity to look after yours.
I have been babysitting children since I was 13 years old (almost 19 years of experience). I have cared for children from birth to 18 years of age and have cared for as few as 1 child to as many as 5 children on my own. I have also worked with children with a variety of special needs as well as children with complicated health status. I intend to provide care, learning opportunities through play, exploration and even helping with homework when appropriate; as well as reinforce principles, rules and behaviours that are normally encouraged by parents when parents are home.
I enjoy engaging in play, encouraging independent play and developing crafts and activities for children to participate in. I also encourage healthy meals and snacks and providing healthy nutritious foods to fuel children's development.
As a Registered Dietitian and as a current Medical Student I feel confident that your children will be in the safest of hands :)
