In my free time I love to explore nature and garden. I have a small garden in my apartment and on my balcony that I spend a lot of time with in the spring and summer months. I also love to read and watch baseball, either live at the SkyDome or on TV. I drink copious amounts of hot beverages and rarely go anywhere without a water bottle. My partner and their son live in Tennessee, so when we get to see each other we love to go exploring in the city or the mountains depending where we are. We love the zoo and going to baseball games, as well as exploring national parks and new restaurants. I also want to note that we are getting married in August in Tennessee, so I would need to have August 1-21 off. I mask in public and am up to date on my COVID boosters, though I understand that most people do not and I’m not asking a hiring family to take that up. I take illnesses seriously and ask that any family I work for do the same; my partner’s son is immunocompromised and him catching COVID or any other serious illness could leave him even more disabled than he already is, so when it’s close to time for a visit with them I’m more cautious. I understand that parents need care for their children, but in the same way I don’t want to bring anything serious home for my kid, I don’t want to give anything I might have to anyone else. I am willing to be flexible 95% of the year, but if someone in your household or mine tests positive for COVID, I’m not willing to be flexible. That being said, I have a pretty strong immune system and am willing to work extra for things that might keep kids home from school like a fever, vomiting or diarrhea. I am also nonbinary, as is my partner, I use they/them pronouns, and ask that only LGBTQIA+ friendly families contact me. I am very open about my queerness and am not willing to hide that part of me. I started nannying in 2017 for 4 boys — yep! Jumped in feet first to the deep end! I loved it. They were the highlight of my day. One of them has autism and is pretty much nonverbal so there was a learning curve, but I have since worked with other children with autism as well, so I have experience with all of it, including toileting and changing pull-ups. From there I took on a second family with two kids, doing morning drop off. There are now 3 kids and I still do morning drop off with them, making their lunches, getting them out of bed and ready for their busy school days! I started taking care of the youngest one a week after she was born, so have experience with newborns as well. During the pandemic lockdown of 2020 I took the two children for outings wherever we could go when playgrounds were closed and made our own adventures. We would go climb the big rocks at the park or go see the daffodils growing at the high school nearby. We played with maples keys and sang songs on our walks, learning through everyday routines. In 2022 I started with a baby, 10 months old, three days a week. It was so lovely, I absolutely loved watching him explore and learn about the world. In January of 2023 he started daycare and I took on my current family, with two kids (7&9 at the time). I spend my afternoons with them, helping with homework and getting them to their various activities on time and safely. I make healthy snacks for them before I pick them up from school and then ensure time management to make sure they get everything done, including homework for their various activities (karate, music theory etc).

My name is Maya. I recently graduated from university with a BA in Political Science. My experiences with childcare began when I worked as a mother's helper and babysitter. I received my second degree black belt in high school and began working as a martial arts instructor. There, I taught children aged 3-12 and led birthday parties on weekends. I have experience in creating crafts, coordinating activities (such as sensory games and outdoor play), and setting schedules for children. My hobbies include reading, photography, and crafts. I am an energetic, fun-loving, and responsible individual. I have been fortunate to have babysitters and nannies who went above and beyond for me when I was younger, I cherish those memories and aim to create that experience for the children I work with. I have a wide variety of childcare experience which started from receiving my babysitting certification as a young person. I worked as a mothers helper and a babysitter throughout middle and high school. I worked as a martial arts instructor for kids ages 3-12 (ran classes and birthday parties there). Through university I spent my summers working for the City of Toronto as a camp counsellor - the majority of that time was with children aged 4-5. I planned crafts, activities, and made schedules at the city - ensuring they were age appropriate and engaging. To become a counsellor at the City I acquired an updated first aid certificate, police background check/vulnerable sector check, and a certification from HIGH FIVE PHCD (principles of healthy child development).
