My name is Elyse, and I'm an Early Childhood Educator with extensive experience working with young people in residential settings. I’d love to take this opportunity to share a bit about who I am and how I could be an incredible caregiver for your family. I am currently employed on a casual basis as a Program Aide for a Speech Language Pathology Clinic as well as a local family-owned boutique. I am hoping to find a position that provides consistent hours and while still being open to some necessary flexibility.
I attended Grant MacEwan University in the Early Learning and Child Care program, where my studies focused on the holistic experience of the child. Embracing the Reggio-Emilia style of education taught me both how to properly lead and scaffold children’s experiences, and how to humbly follow the child as they learn and discover through their interactions with their environment and the community around them.
Since my graduation in 2013, I’ve had the opportunity to work all over the world with children and youth with various mental and physical diversities. My client's adversities have included Down’s Syndrome, ASD, ADHD, GDD, ODD, and CDKL-5 and caring for each client has allowed me to develop a variety of essential care skills including community accompaniment, feeding (g-tube), hygiene, medication administration, seizure care, lifting and transferring. I have always embraced challenges and new experiences with an open mind and a smile.
I believe that working with children requires one essential skill above all others; the ability to see beyond diagnoses or pre-determined labels and recognize the child as an individual. I have found that true growth and connection comes when the child and I can find the things that we both love; an interest in rhythm, movement, tactile experiences or sound exploration. This is where relationships can be built and the magic of the work can flourish. I want both the parents and the children I work with to feel seen and supported, I want them to know that who they are and how they live is something to be celebrated.
Outside of my work with children, I love to garden and spend time with my own family - my husband, my sweet old dog, my 12 year old daughter and my 9 year old son. I also have my own photography business; my favourite subjects being children and pets. I love capturing the precious candid moments so that loved ones can hold on to them for a lifetime. I've especially enjoyed my shoots capturing children who have special needs, providing sliding scale and low income options for families who may not otherwise have the opportunity to have portraits taken.
I would feel so honoured to have a role in supporting your family. I hope I will have the opportunity to meet you in person, and I thank you for taking the time to read what I have shared here with you.
