Nikita N.
I am a 21-year-old student entering my third year at the University of Calgary, where I am pursuing an Education major with a minor in Psychology. I would describe myself as naturally nurturing, patient, and attentive, with a genuine passion for supporting children’s growth and well-being. Creating a safe, positive, and engaging environment for kids is something that comes naturally to me, and I take pride in being someone children can feel comfortable and supported around. I grew up in a dayhome run by my mother, which meant I was surrounded by children from a young age. Between the ages of 12 and 14, I began helping with daily routines and care, which sparked my interest in working with kids. At 14, I became a certified lifeguard and swim instructor, where I worked with children every day, helping them build confidence in the water while ensuring their safety. I am also certified in First Aid and CPR C, and I have kept these certifications up to date. At 16, I started working at a daycare in my hometown, beginning in the infant room and eventually gaining experience with children up to 12 years old. This role helped me develop strong adaptability, communication skills, and an understanding of different developmental stages. More recently, from May 2023 until last week, I worked as a supervising lifeguard and spent my summers as a day camp leader, working with children and youth aged 8–18 and leading fun, structured activities throughout the week. Outside of my professional experience, I enjoy staying active and spending time outdoors. I love swimming and often spend my free time in the pool. I also enjoy hiking whenever I get the chance and value spending quality time with my family. I am a proud dog owner and live with my boyfriend, who works full-time as an engineer. My hobbies and lifestyle reflect my energetic, caring personality, and I bring that same positive energy into my work with children. I strongly believe in active engagement, outdoor play, cleanliness, and above all, the safety and happiness of the children in my care.
I have developed a strong foundation working with children through both personal and professional experiences. Growing up in a dayhome run by my mother, I was immersed in a childcare environment from a young age and began actively helping with daily routines and supervision between the ages of 12 and 14. This early experience taught me responsibility, patience, and the importance of creating a safe, nurturing space for children. At 14, I became a certified lifeguard and swim instructor, where I worked closely with children on a daily basis. In this role, I focused on building confidence in young swimmers while maintaining a strong emphasis on safety. I also became certified in First Aid and CPR C, which I have consistently kept up to date. By age 16, I began working at a daycare in my hometown, where I gained valuable hands-on experience with children of all ages. I started in the infant room and gradually expanded to working with children up to 12 years old. This role strengthened my ability to adapt to different developmental needs and foster positive, engaging environments. From May 2023 until recently, I worked as a supervising lifeguard at the university of Calgary, and during summer months, I also served as a day camp leader through our amazing UCAC summer camp program. In this position, I worked with children and youth aged 8–18, planning and leading activities Monday through Friday while ensuring a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment. Currently, I am 21 years old and entering my third year at the University of Calgary, pursuing an Education major with a Psychology minor. My studies complement my practical experience and deepen my understanding of child development and learning. I am passionate about active engagement, outdoor play, cleanliness, and, above all, the safety and well-being of the children in my care. Outside of work, I am a proud dog owner and live with my boyfriend, who works full-time as an engineer. We enjoy spending quality time with family, going hiking whenever we can, and I personally love spending my free time in the pool.
