Tia C.
My name is Tia and I am currently 20 years old, and looking to become a nanny in Calgary. I have been babysitting since I was 10 years old, starting with my three younger siblings, the youngest of which I have a 10 year age gap with. I love babies, talking to them and narrating our daily tasks and what we’re doing or seeing around wherever we find ourselves. Developing their fine motor skills with toys, grabbing onto things, or using books with different textures or shapes! Or even just walking around and spending time with a little one lightens up my day. I have spent time babysitting babies from the time they were a few weeks old until they were toddlers or even school aged kids! I have also spent lots of time with toddlers and school aged kids, who are some of the funniest people I have ever met! I love reading, baking, chatting, crafting, singing and playing music, and being outside with kids. I currently provide respite care for a 10 year old with Down syndrome and have been spending time with her for 5 years. I have assisted her with skiing, using the toilet (as she cannot on her own), assist in bedtime routines (CPAP machine set up, bathing, hair and teeth care etc), incorporate learning and motor skills into play and sit down to work on reading and writing with her. Through working with this amazing 10 year old girl I have picked up some ASL, personalized my communication with her in order to talk with her in ways that 1. Allow me to understand her best and 2. Allow her to understand exactly what I am talking to her about. She is nonverbal so these are very important. Though not all kids have the same abilities I have found that these skills I’ve acquired through working with Hannah are transferable. All kids love fun and having their time to play, to incorporate learning into these games it makes it fun for everyone! All families are different and I am totally open and understanding to the way any family wants to raise their children. I am looking forward to working closely with the grown ups in charge to make sure that the children are getting the best care possible!
I have been babysitting since I was 10 years old and during this time I have learned lots about the way children go about their lives! I currently provide casual respite care for a 10 year old with Down syndrome and have for the past 5 years. This includes assisting her in skiing, including education and speech development into play, assisting with reading and homework in the home and incorporating these typically boring tasks in a fun way. I have experience with newborns and have spent lots of time with a few babies from the time they were a few weeks old until they were toddlers or school aged kids! Obviously every family is different, but my favourite is to incorporate developmental skills and new experiences into these little ones’ day to day schedules. I love working with families to ensure I am providing the care that best suits each family. :)
