I grew up with friends with disabilities and thus don’t remember any stage of life where I haven’t been interacting with folks with disabilities. I firmly believe that everyone deserves to live life as fully as possible, and I would love to help you and your loved one do just that. In terms of interests, I am a huge lover of animals (have three cats myself). I enjoy hikes, swimming, time outdoors, arts & crafts, reading, and time with friends. I am open to trying just about any activity, and love to hear about peoples’ passions and special interests :) I have been working with children with disabilities as a babysitter since I was 12, for children with Down Syndrome, ASD, ADHD, ODD, generalized developmental delays, and CP, amongst other diagnoses. From 2010 onwards, I have supported children with disabilities in a recreation capacity with the YMCA, both on land and in aquatics. As a lifeguard and swim instructor, I taught the YMCA’s swim program “Li’Sharks” for children with disabilities. Since then, I have supported children with disabilities in day camp settings, art programs, and daycares. In 2019, I started a school placement with Community Living Hamilton, where I realized my passion for working with people of all ages with disabilities. Afterwards, I continued to stay active in the field of developmental disabilities by volunteering with Community Living’s Drum Corps, being an inclusion facilitator with a local community pottery program, running virtual programs for Adults in Motion over zoom for young adults with disabilities, and co facilitating a collaborative project between Willowbridge Community Services and RE-create Outreach Art Studio where young adults with developmental disabilities attend and participate in an art studio space with young adults with mental illnesses and/ or addictions. Finally, I currently work for the City of Burlington, facilitating the city’s inclusion programs for children, teens, and adults with developmental disabilities. I have an educational background in developmental disabilities, behaviour support, and educational support work. I have current certifications in Standard First Aid with CPR-C, Behaviour Management Systems training, Safe Food Handlers, a G drivers’ license, Respite Services Training, FASD Training and a police and vulnerable sectors check from May (I can get a more current one if need be).
