I’ve always been a caring and compassionate person, and have ended up in caretaking fields because I genuinely feel like I’m earning my little time on this planet by supporting and helping others.
I really enjoy (most!) people, and I particularly seek out the company of children, the elderly, and people with special needs. I gel particularly well with individuals on the autism spectrum and with ADHD.
I’ve been in the caretaking field for over twenty years. This has included positions as a behavioural support worker, rehab therapist, nanny/sitter, and private contract positions with families. I enjoy challenges as well as helping people reach their full potential. Most of my experience has been during individuals with TBIs, developmental delays, ASD/ADHD etc.
I have a BSc with a BioMed minor, which included courses in nutrition, pathology, physiology, and behaviour/ethology. I have keen interests in both medicine and psychology, and I participate in continuing education to keep up to with the latest in the fields. I ran an animal rescue for 19 years and coordinated rehab programs for animals that had been abused, abandoned, neglected, and/or ill/injured.
Things I’m passionate about when caring for others focus on helping others reach their full potential. Tailored to family wishes, I try to incorporate balanced activities that typically include physical activity, intellectual stimulation, and Imparting feelings of safety and security. I’m a genuinely caring person and this is done with consistent love and care. Depending on age and capability, activities might include learning skills like reading and writing, engaging in art, outings geared towards mental and physical development, mindfulness, and random activities like growing plants, making dog cookies, or carving a pumpkin. I usually have a collection of books and activities with me for new options.
I recently had some hours open up and am looking to replace them. At present, my availability is fairly open. I’m flexible regarding work hours, though I prefer to avoid early mornings. I’m not looking for full time hours as I have existing clients but would consider it for the right family.
My rates start at $25/hr and depend on the number of children, their needs, location/hours, and duties. What I bring to the table is many years of experience and training in both caretaking and behaviour modification, professional and responsible interaction and care, and peace of mind. It doesn’t usually take long for new clients to get a feel for my character and work ethic.
I will be updating my profiles on this site in coming months, as hours open up. Please feel free to message me in the meantime. Due to some personal commitments, I’m trying not to book too much work until fall, but that’s flexible.
Lastly, I’ve worked extensively with animals, and I do behaviour consults for dogs. I’m comfortable with animals, have a reliable vehicle, and am certified in First Aid/CPR and Crisis Intervention (and willing to renew when expired). I have a clean vulnerable sector police check.
I’ve been in caretaking roles for over 25 years. I’ve done both personal support and rehab therapy and have significant experience in both behavioural and medical support. I’ve worked in group homes, lockdown facilities, and private homes contracted by family.
