Loving couple with two children (boy 4, girl 6) in south-end Halifax hiring a fulltime nanny for 40-45 hours per week. Our ideal nanny has a calm, loving, empathetic, and positive demeanor, works well in a team environment, adores children, and is looking for a minimum of an 18 months- 2-year commitment. She has experience with children of this age, comes prepared with activities/games/lessons, and has the “took kit” to manage children of this age while following our approach of gentle parenting.
Start Date
• As soon as possible.
• 40-45 hours per week, primarily 830am – 5pm with some evening or weekend requests to be scheduled together (approx. 1 per week).
Location
• Sep 1 – June 15: Halifax, Nova Scotia (south end)
• June 15 – Sep 1: Inverness, Cape Breton (separate accommodations paid for by us)
Cape Breton is a National Geographic “Top 10 Island in the World” and we are within walking distance to beautiful beaches, hikes, nature, and a quaint and bustling tourist town. We will provide accommodations in a nearby apartment.
Compensation
• Up to $30/hour, including $3/hour completion bonus for successful completion of contract.
• 15 vacation days limited to 1-2 days/month during Dec, Jan, Feb, & June. Ideally, vacation is
taken during the times the family is away.
• 7 paid holidays; New Year’s Day, NS Heritage Day (or alternate day in lieu of),
Good Friday, Canada Day, Labour Day, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day.
• 5 paid sick days for illness or bereavement.
Experience/Requirements
• A minimum of 2 years of experience with children under 6.
• Drivers license.
• Excellent references (2 -4).
• Legally allowed to work in Canada for the next 2 years minimum.
• Children’s first aid certification or willingness to take the course (we will pay for it).
• Willingness and ability to travel 3-4x per year + current passport.
• Nonsmoker.
• Proficiency in oral and written English.
• Experience and ability to cook and clean for the family.
• No criminal record and a completed vulnerable sector check.
• Willingness and ability to follow Canadian public health guidelines with regards to vaccinations.
• A love of being outdoors with children in all seasons.
• A love of taking care of and teaching children.

Primary Responsibilities
• Supervise and care for children
• Maintain a safe and healthy environment in the home
• Dress and feed children
• Prepare and serve nutritious meals
• Instruct in personal hygiene and social development
• Prepare our children for rest periods
• Prepare and organize activities including learning activities, outdoor time, crafts, baking, games, as well as outings, and assist children to participate as appropriate
• Read to our children
• Tend to the emotional well-being of children
Secondary Responsibilities
• Household Assistance (not to be done while having primary care for children in a manner that becomes unsafe or unfair to them).
• Housekeeping duties, such as tidying kitchen after meals, washing dishes/loading and unloading dishwasher, sweeping, organizing, laundry, meal preparation, chopping fruits and veggies, cooking simple meals, and maintaining a list of needed groceries and household items, etc.
Periodic Responsibilities (infrequently)
• Vacuuming/mopping, wipe down bathrooms, changing bedding.
• Helping with general administrative duties such as organizing the house, sorting kids clothes and toys, sourcing/ordering kids items, or running errands (ie. Groceries)
• Assisting us with packing for (and unpacking from) trips.
