We're Sarah and Adam — parents to 10-week-old twins living in the east end of Toronto! We're a warm, hands-on family who love to travel and believe that fun is at the heart of great parenting. We live at Bayview + Eglinton and are looking for a Spanish-speaking mothers helper/sitter for our family with our 6yr old daughter and our 4kg dog! Non-Spanish speakers need not apply and we wish you well on job search :) We are offering 5-10 hrs per week and would work with you to choose these days. We offer flexibility with hours if you are in school, etc we can accommodate! Our ideal would be weekends and a couple of evenings per week but we will make the schedule work for the ideal candidate. Our daughter is funny, sweet, usually very happy and is a pleasure to play with. Then there is our little white dog who is very cute, so someone who loves animals would be a great match for us! You MUST be physically active, know how to swim, non-smoker, be fun, playful and ideally flexible with scheduling. Please note this position is a blended mother's helper and sitter, which means you are helping me with all the tasks I perform as a mom running a household. Things like walking the dog, folding laundry, unloading the dishwasher, vacuuming, deep cleaning, playing with our daughter, taking her to the park and tidying her toy area at the end of the day (she helps in this process and also does her own laundry) etc. Our reason for blending these roles is to minimize the number of people coming in and out of our daughter's life. She gets attached and it's important that we provide consistency for her. About our parenting outlook: We practice connection instead of correction. We get curious about the reasons behind her behaviour instead of punishing her when she makes a mistake. We teach by example, not by forcing her to say "thank you" or "sorry". We use happiness and love to teach her instead of using shame to manipulate her into doing what we want. We use distraction to divert her attention when required. If she gets mad or cries, we offer a hug and support while we give her a safe space to feel all the feelings. We always stay closeby and at the same time give her space to explore. We keep her choices safe and keep her on a healthy path as she discovers the world around her. We trust her to grow into who she needs to be! We are not authority figures, we are trusted guides! :) Currently, she is educated privately in Spanish with a teacher at home. In addition to the academics in Spanish, we also attend what is best described as "family school" together where we learn and connect with other like minded families and children in English. Our daughter does not attend traditional school and we have no immediate plans to do so. And finally a favourite quote of ours that sums up our outlook on raising our daughter: "Cada planta tiene sus propios requisitos para crecer. Al igual que cada uno de nosotros."
