We are looking for a compassionate and experienced caretaker for our 8-year-old daughter, who is Autistic and has an intellectual disability. Although our daughter is non-verbal, she understands a lot and enjoys interacting with others. She’s very in tune with the world around her and can pretend to watch TV but will pick up on conversations about her. She will need assistance with daily tasks such as getting dressed, undressed, brushing her teeth, and taking baths. She is also not yet potty trained, so help with changing her pull-ups is necessary. She loves company and is eager to learn, often excited to assist with tasks around the house and kitchen—she’s especially fond of anything related to cooking, particularly if noodles are involved! Our daughter enjoys activities like playdough, reading, singing, and dancing, and she enjoys watching cooking shows. She has a good routine, and we’ve found that preparing her for the day ahead with telling her next steps or visual cues really helps her transition smoothly. We are looking for someone who: Has experience working with children who have special needs, especially non-verbal or intellectually disabled children. Is patient, empathetic, and able to follow routines while also being flexible enough to adapt as needed. Can assist with her personal care, including changing pull-ups, helping her get dressed, helping her drink and eat, and supporting her with her hygiene routine. Is comfortable interacting with her, helping her stay engaged, and making sure she feels heard and included. Can provide a police record check and vulnerable sector check for safety and peace of mind. Our daughter is generally happy and easygoing, but she may cry when something is wrong—such as when she’s unwell, has a tummy ache, or is simply exhausted. We’re looking for someone who will treat her with kindness, respect, and patience when she’s not feeling her best, and who will be able to support her with love and care.
